Year 6CW @RF have had a wonderful literature experience reading “Arrival” by Shaun Tan this half term. This is a powerful graphic novel that explores themes of migration, belonging, and cultural identity in a visually stunning way. Using drama as a tool, we delved into the complex themes of the book for engagement and to encourage deeper understanding and empathy.

We focused on the use of different clauses for effect in narrative writing to develop our language skills and literary techniques. Learning how to vary sentence structures greatly enhanced the flow and impact of our writing, allowing us to convey our ideas more effectively.

We have enjoyed reading our published pieces. Keep up the fantastic work year 6!

2LB @RF have been very busy this half term.  In maths, we’ve been doing multiplication and division.  In geography, we’ve been locating cities within the UK and we’re going to be looking at mountain ranges around the world. In history, we’ve been learning about how animals were sent into space.  Finally, in English, we’ve been using imperative verbs and time conjunctions to write up our instructions on ‘how to make a rocket’.  Here are just some of the fantastic examples.  Well done 2LB!

In English 1CM @RF have been learning how to make a fact file. We used our onsite rabbits for our learning. The children visited the rabbits and gathered information. They also researched rabbits using their iPads. All the facts they discovered were then used to create and write their own Rangefield Rabbit Fact File.

In art this term, 3AD @RF have taken inspiration from Pablo Picasso! We have been practising a range of artistic skills. We looked at drawing in proportion using the grid method. We tried our hand at layering creating a 3D effect and then we practised abstract portraits focusing on our use of line and vibrant colours, much like Pablo Picasso did. Our final piece will combine all of the skills we have been using and a touch of collaging as well for extra texture and effect!

    Tue 30 Jan 2024

This week in 4SM @RF we have been using role play to understand the jobs and roles of people in Anglo Saxon England. This has helped bring to life a typical village setting, with children acting out hunting, farming, cooking, weaving and playing.

This lesson enabled the children to understand the wider context to our history topic where we have been looking into the Vikings invasions of Anglo-Saxon Britain.

We have also been reading the ‘Tunnel’, we enjoyed acting out the story.

  • YR5EB news @RF

    Tue 23 Jan 2024

The 5EB @RF children have returned excited and ready to learn, from their Christmas holidays and have enjoyed all of the learning this far, especially English.

We have been reading ‘The Tunnel’ by Anthony Browne. As a class, we made some great predictions by looking at the evidence and then went on to identify how suspense is created within films as well as writing. We used drama techniques such as; voice, body, movement, and use of space to fully immerse ourselves in the plot action more effectively. This week, we look forward to writing our own narrative, using all of the skills we have learnt
