Fri 27 Feb 2026This term, Year 6 have been introduced to the work of William Morris. They have explored key facts about his life and artistic style, learning about his intricate patterns and nature-inspired designs.
Using his techniques as inspiration, the children created their own detailed drawings — and the results are truly amazing! Well done, 6LD and 6CE @RF, for your creativity and careful attention to detail.

Thu 26 Feb 2026In Year 2 RE @RF, we have been developing our musical skills by learning to play the glockenspiel. We began by creating our own rhythms and then explored how to combine these rhythms with different notes to compose simple melodies.
Recently, we have been practising our compositions and performing them to our classmates, building both our confidence and performance skills. We are very proud of the creativity and enthusiasm everyone has shown!

5ZS @RF have hit the ground running this week and have been very busy with their learning!
In Maths, we have been exploring decimals, building our understanding of place value and applying our knowledge to problem solving.
In Science, we have been investigating materials, discussing their properties and thinking carefully about how and why different materials are used.
In Art, we have been studying the beautiful work of Georgia O’Keeffe, looking closely at her use of colour, shape and scale to inspire our own creations.
In English, we have immersed ourselves in the world of suspense and tension, learning about Annie Edson Taylor — known as the Queen of the Falls — and how she defied all odds to survive going over Niagara Falls! Please do ask your children about this — they would love to share their learning with you!

We’ve been focusing heavily on our classroom ethos, exploring how we look after one another through the joys of collaborative play.

Maths and Science
We have been learning about odd and even numbers. We learned about gathering data from a real scientist who came to visit our class and then carried out our own study entitled, “What are the favourite colours of people at Rangefield Primary School”.
Collaborative Play and Sharing
The children are becoming experts at navigating social interactions. We have been practicing specific phrases to help us share resources fairly, such as:
- “Can I have a turn?”
- “My turn first, your turn next”
- “Can I play with you?”
- “Yes, you can have it when I am finished”
Communication and Boundaries
We are learning a very important distinction in our language:
- For sharing: We aim for positive interactions and avoid using a blunt “no.”
- For personal space: We’ve discussed that the word “no” is a powerful tool reserved for protecting our bodies and personal space. This helps the children feel safe and respected.
Literature and Imagination
We have been exploring the story of The Magic Paintbrush. This has inspired many creative projects and also the mysterious arrival of a dragon egg! The children have been using their natural curiosity and investigative skills to imagine what might be inside.

Fri 06 Feb 2026In English the 3CM @RF children created poetry in the form of Kennings, all based on the story of George and the dragon. We produced storylines and retold the story of George, who is a tiny mouse moving in next door to a dragon, who has a very big secret.
In Maths we are measuring classroom items in metres, centimetres and millimetres and compared measurements of different measuring units by converting them to millimetres. Ask your child how many mm they can find in one centimetre or metre.
In art we had great success in drawing a cubistic portrait of Picasso with a pencil. We then experimented to give each area a tonal value in blue in order to created a monochrome (just in blue or pink) portrait of Picasso.
In Geography we learned about the countries and mountain ranges in North America and talked about the Panama canal. We received great homework projects and are always excited to see what the children have done. And finally a reminder of making the reading, times table and spelling work a good habit at home.

Fri 06 Feb 2026This week, in Year 1 LG @RF, the children have been learning about the artist Barbara Hepworth and exploring her amazing sculptures. We looked closely at her smooth shapes, holes, and natural forms, and talked about how she was inspired by nature.
The children then used clay to create their own sculptures inspired by Hepworth’s work. They learned how to roll, pinch, press, and smooth the clay, carefully adding holes and curved shapes just like the artist did. Everyone worked really hard and showed great creativity and concentration.

In Year 5, we’ve been focusing on kindness — in our classroom and throughout our community. We’ve been exploring how something as simple as a smile, showing gratitude, or making a small positive choice can make a big difference to someone’s day.
Our pupils have been putting this into action, and the impact has been wonderful to see:
