Thu 30 Apr 2026Children in RLT @RF this week have been super busy!
We have been counting beyond 10 up to 20. We have shown different ways how to build a number using our maths resources. We are so proud of our learning.
In English this week we have been reading fly me a dragon and have written simple sentences about what the dragon does, using colourful semantics to support our writing.

Mon 27 Apr 2026This week in 5ZS @RF, pupils have been exploring the stages of human development as part of our science curriculum. We investigated how humans change across the life cycle, from infancy through childhood, adolescence, and into adulthood.
The children identified characteristics that are typical for their age group, as well as those that vary between individuals. Through practical enquiry, pupils measured each other and compared data with children from across the school. This allowed us to observe that age does not always correlate directly with height, highlighting the role of variation within a species.
We also examined the key physical and developmental changes that occur at each stage of the human life cycle, including growth, increasing independence, and the onset of puberty. Pupils used scientific vocabulary to describe these processes and discussed how and why humans change over time.
A fantastic week of scientific thinking and investigation in Year 5!

Fri 24 Apr 2026This week in 4EB @RF, we have been exploring the incredible work of Frida Kahlo
We looked closely at her unique style, discussing how she used bold colours, symbolism, and careful shading to express her identity and emotions. The class shared thoughtful observations about what makes her artwork so distinctive and powerful.
Building on this, we practised key artistic skills such as shading techniques and understanding facial proportions. The children then applied these skills to create their own self-portraits, taking great care to position features accurately and add depth through shading.
We are now looking forward to developing our portraits further by adding vibrant florals, inspired by Frida Kahlo’s iconic style
We were so impressed with the focus, creativity, and resilience shown by everyone. The final portraits are going to be a fantastic reflection of both skill development and personal expression—just like Frida Kahlo herself!

Thu 23 Apr 2026Year 6 @RF have started a new book in English called ‘The Viewer’ by Shaun Tan. The children were not aware this was a real toy, so Mr Ball brought in his. They had fun looking at pictures from Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan! It was great to see their expressions, thank you Mr Ball.

Oakbridge Nursery news
Thu 23 Apr 2026This week in Nursery, we stepped into the world of traditional tales and explored The Gingerbread Man!
The children had lots of fun colouring their gingerbread men, showing fantastic pencil control and trying really hard to stay within the lines. We then practised our cutting skills—snip, snip!
We also had some great discussions, answering the question: “Which part would you eat first?”
To finish our activity, the children got to decorate their very own real gingerbread biscuits… and of course, eat them! Just like in the story, “he was never seen again…”
Such a fun (and tasty!) week of learning!

Wed 22 Apr 2026In Year 1LG at RF, we have been focussing on our core skills. In maths we have been learning about multiplication and division. The children have enjoyed counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and are beginning to look at sharing and grouping.
In English, we’ve been exploring using conjunctions and the class have been extending their sentences.
We’ve also had some fantastic foundation subject lessons, learning about rural and suburban areas as well as using a keyboard in computing. The children are working really well. A fantastic start to the new term.
