This week, Year 6LD @RF had an exciting adventure as they visited Al-Emaan Mosque! During the trip, the children learned about the Five Pillars of Islam, which are like the building blocks of a Muslim’s faith. They discovered that these pillars include believing in one God (Shahada), praying five times a day (Salah), giving to those in need (Zakat), fasting during the holy month of Ramadan (Sawm), and making a special trip to Mecca if they can (Hajj).

The children enjoyed exploring the beautiful mosque, asking questions, and even trying on some traditional outfits. We learnt about the importance of community in Islam. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about different cultures and beliefs, and everyone left feeling inspires, more knowledgeable!

In YR2RE @RF we have been learning about colours in art. We learnt that the primary colours (red, blue and yellow) are a set of colours that cannot be created by mixing other colours. We investigated and had lots of fun finding out other colours we could make using the primary colours.

  • YR1/2CM news @RF

    Thu 19 Sep 2024

In Years 1/2 CM @RF, we have been reading ‘What we’ll build’ by Oliver Jefferies.

We read the story and began to understand through lots of discussions what building something together could look like in our class.

We first decided to build a gallery as we all enjoy art and drawing. Once we made this the children became really curious about having a magic door!

  • YR4EB news @RF

    Thu 19 Sep 2024

In the first two weeks of term, 4EB @RF have used the book *What We’ll Build* by Oliver Jeffers as inspiration to write persuasive letters to Mr. Ball, asking him to allow us to build a vegetable patch on the school grounds. The book’s themes of creating and building together motivated us to think about how we could improve our school environment in a meaningful way. We applied persuasive writing skills, including coming up with strong arguments and supporting them with clear reasons. We used emotional appeal by highlighting how the vegetable patch would benefit both students and the environment, while also incorporating facts about healthy eating and sustainability. Additionally, we practised using formal language and structuring our letters with an introduction, reasons, and a conclusion. Through peer reviews, we refined our writing, ensuring our letters were compelling and error-free before sending them to Mr. Ball for consideration. I am very proud of how much effort the pupils of 4EB have put into their first big write of the school year. Well done year 4!

  • YR5/6AD news @RF

    Mon 16 Sep 2024

In 5/6AD @RF this week in we introduced an exciting new game called Ninja! Designed to challenge both body and mind, Ninja requires participants to use agility, balance, and quick reflexes to outmaneuver their opponents. Players must also engage in critical thinking, anticipating their opponents’ moves while staying focused on their own strategy. It’s a fun and dynamic way for students to develop physical coordination and sharpen mental focus in a fast-paced, interactive environment.

3ZS @RF have had a great first week back. We have been learning about the book called ‘What We’ll Build’ by Oliver Jeffers, this is all about building and creating memories and today we designed and created our own worlds, please look out for a post next week when they’re all complete!

We have also been learning to develop our team building skills, this has been excellent to see the children sharing and working  alongside their peers, like in the pictures below, we were able to partition numbers in groups using numicon, dienes and place value charts. I’m looking forward to seeing what the weeks ahead will bring.
