5/6AD Class @FP have put their Maths skills to the test in a delicious way! 🎉 We started with a recipe for 12 cupcakes but had to adjust it to make only 6. Using our knowledge of ratios and proportions, we carefully halved each ingredient to ensure our cupcakes turned out just right.

It was a great way to see maths in action - measuring, problem solving, and, of course, enjoying the sweet rewards at the end! 🧁✨

Who knew Maths could be so tasty? 😋

A Journey Back in Time: Exploring Life as an Evacuee – Year 6LD @RF

This term, the children have embarked on a fascinating journey into history, learning about World War II and the experiences of evacuees during one of the most challenging periods in modern history. The classrooms have been buzzing with curiosity, creativity, and empathy as they’ve stepped into the shoes of children who lived through the war.

To bring their learning to life, the students visited the historic Chislehurst Caves, an underground town that served as the largest deep air-raid shelter outside London. During the Blitz, these caves provided refuge for over 15,000 people each night, shielding them from the chaos and destruction above. Walking through the dimly lit tunnels, the children were transported back in time, gaining an understanding of what life was like for those seeking safety underground.

Back in school, the children delved deeper into the experiences of wartime evacuees. Through research, storytelling, and creative writing, they uncovered the emotions and challenges faced by children who were sent away from their families to live in unfamiliar surroundings. Their discoveries were heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measure, as they learned about the resilience, bravery, and sacrifices made by young evacuees.

We’re thrilled to share some of the Historical Accounts of Life as an Evacuee that the children have produced. Their imaginative writing captures the spirit of the times, showcasing vivid details and heartfelt emotions. From letters home to diary entries, their work paints a powerful picture of what it was like to live through such a momentous chapter in history.

We’re incredibly proud of the children’s engagement and enthusiasm throughout this topic. Their work not only reflects their understanding of history but also highlights their empathy and creativity.

In our D&T lesson, in Year 1CM @RF, we invited parents to join us to plan, do and evaluate.  We read the story ‘Sam’s Sandwich’ and created a plan of what we wanted our sandwiches to be.  We discussed healthy and unhealthy food, especially bread.  We made our sandwiches and tasted them.  We then evaluated them by checking if they matched our initial expectations. We also considered what could be done to improve them. Finally, we assessed how they tasted.

Excellent, messy and delicious were the three most common comments.

Last week, in 4EB@RF, we had a fantastic parental engagement session within our Year 4 class, where students teamed up with their parents for a fun and challenging escape room activity! It was a great way to encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills. The puzzles were definitely tricky, and at times it seemed like the challenges were too much for them. But seeing the kids persist, help each other, and even laugh through the frustration was such a highlight. Everyone really came together to make the most of the experience, and it was a brilliant opportunity for parents to get a taste of what their children are learning in school. Can't wait for our next one.

     Storytime Fun with Dear Zoo

This week, our little learners have been diving into the beloved story Dear Zoo

     Retelling the Story:
We’ve been using our imagination to retell the tale, bringing the characters to life in our own words!

     Exploring the Animals:
With our fine motor skills hard at work, we’ve been feeling, sorting, and exploring all the wonderful animals from the story.

     Where’s the Puppy?
Our positional language skills are growing as we describe where the cheeky little puppy is hiding. Under the table? Next to the box? Behind the chair?

     Lion Faces:
ROAR! Our creative juices were flowing as we made our very own lion masks. Fierce, fabulous, and full of fun!

     Building a Zoo:
Tiny architects have been hard at work designing and building their very own zoos. What amazing creations they’ve made!

     Our Very Own Book:
We’ve even created our own Dear Zoo book with all the children’s wonderful drawings and words. Storytime has never been so much fun!

We’re so proud of how engaged and creative our little ones have been this week.  What a joy it is to see them learning through play!

This week, 3ZS @RF have been diving into the fascinating world of our brains! From the Hippocampus to the Amygdala and Prefrontal Cortex, we’ve been learning how these components help us think, feel, and grow. We’ve also been focusing on myHappymind and how we can use these lessons to boost our well-being.
We can’t wait to share what we’ve learned with our families next month! And don’t forget – Happy Breathing is the key to staying calm and focused!
