This week, 3ZS @RF had a fantastic time showing their responsibility and maturity during our reading session with the R/1LT class. Each child selected a book and had the opportunity to read it to their partner. This has been a wonderful way for the children to develop their reading skills while fostering positive relationships with the younger children.

We’re excited to continue this initiative every week, giving our Year 3 students a chance to grow as role models and support the reading development of R/1LT.

YR5CE @RF have been watching a clip called ‘Alma’. A little girl finds a mysterious shop, and due to her curiosity ends up in a lot of trouble. Year 5 worked in groups and acted out the clip. They worked well together, and produced fantastic versions of what they had been watching. There was no talking allowed as the clip only played music. My class has never been so quiet!

In R/1LT @RF, we have been learning to sequence the steps to make a sandwich. We were able to talk to each other and put some pictures in the correct order. Then we wrote some instructions to help us make our own sandwich. Then we made a sandwich all by ourselves. They were so yummy!

    Mon 24 Feb 2025

This term, in 4EB@RF the children have been busy in the kitchen as part of our Design and Technology (DT) unit, exploring the world of seasonal food and cooking! Our young chefs have been working hard to develop key skills, from understanding different food groups to safely preparing and cooking a delicious root vegetable soup.

    Here’s what we’ve been learning:

๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿณ Identifying Food Groups – We kicked off by looking at the different food groups and why a balanced diet is important. We discovered that root vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and parsnips are packed with vitamins and great for energy!

๐Ÿ‚ Understanding Seasonal Food – We explored how certain foods grow best in different seasons and learned that root vegetables are perfect for winter because they grow underground, keeping them safe from the cold!

๐Ÿ“‹ Planning a Meal – Before getting our aprons on, we worked in groups to design a nutritious meal. We thought about ingredients, flavours, and how to make our soup extra tasty.

๐Ÿ”ช Using Cooking Equipment Safely – Safety first! We learned how to chop, peel, and stir carefully, using equipment like knives and peelers with confidence.

๐Ÿฒ Preparing & Cooking – The highlight was making our root vegetable soup! We chopped our ingredients, added them to the pot, and watched them turn into a warming, hearty meal. The delicious smells filled the classroom, and we couldn’t wait to taste it!

โญ Evaluating Our Cooking – Finally, we reflected on our work. What did we enjoy the most? How could we improve our soup next time? Some of us wanted to try different herbs and spices, while others thought about making chunkier or smoother versions.

This has been an amazing learning experience, and we’re so proud of our budding chefs. Who’s ready to cook at home? ๐Ÿฝ๏ธโœจ

    ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐ŸŽจ 5/6AD @RF’s Buzz Wire Challenge! ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ”ฌ

This week in Design & Technology (DT), 5/6AD put their Science knowledge to the test by creating Buzz Wire Games! Using our understanding of electrical circuits, we designed and built challenging wire mazes that test steady hands and patience.

First, we planned our designs, thinking carefully about how to shape the wire for maximum difficulty. Then, we constructed our circuits, making sure our buzzers worked properly when the loop touched the wire. Finally, we put our games to the test – some were easier than others, but all of them were lots of fun to play!

It was a great way to combine creativity with scientific thinking. Well done, 5/6AD! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ”งโšก

Would you be able to complete the challenge without making the buzzer go off? ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

In R/1LT @RF, we have been looking at jungle animals and having a great time with the story ‘Walking Through the Jungle’!

We have been using our imagination to make up stories in small world and pretending to be on safari in our outside role play area. Some of us have been writing and practising letter formation.  We have also used our counting skills to sort and find groups of 6, 7 and 8. What fun we have had!
