This term in geography, Y4EB@RF are learning all about the rainforest! We have discovered that rainforests are warm, wet forests filled with tall trees, colourful animals, and amazing plants. They are found near the Equator in places like South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia.

We talked about how important rainforests are for our planet. They help make the air we breathe by producing oxygen, and they are home to over half of all the world’s plant and animal species!

We also learned about the different layers of the rainforest – the emergent layer, canopy, understory, and forest floor. Each layer has its own animals and plants living in it.

    Did You Know?

    – Some rainforest trees grow as tall as 70 metres – that’s taller than 15 giraffes standing on top of each other!

    – The Amazon Rainforest is so big that it produces 20% of the world’s oxygen!

πŸŒΏπŸ› Year 3 Exploration: The Wonderful World of Worms! πŸ›πŸŒΏ

This week, Year 3 @RF dove into the fascinating habitats of worms! We created our very own wormeries in small groups, exploring how these tiny creatures contribute to our environment 🌍✨. We learned about their vital role in adaptations, and why they’re so important to our planet! 🌱

Throughout the week, we observed our worms in action, adding layers of leaves, water, and creating a dark space for them to thrive in πŸŒ™. It was a hands-on experience that taught us all about the hidden wonders of nature! 🐜🌿

YR5CE @RF have been looking at the artist John Nash. They have chosen a picture of his and have sketched it themselves. They are unfinished, as they wanted to take their time, but enjoyed the lesson. What talent we have in year 5!

In R/1LT @RF, We had a fabulous time in finding out about animals. We were all very excited to meet and hold them. Some of us loved holding the snake and feeling how heavy it was.

    • “I was scared to drop it.”
    • “It was smooth and shiny.”
    • “The spider was so soft and gentle but some of us did not feel brave to hold it.”
    • “When the spider was on my hands I liked feeling it walk and it was very light.”
    • “This owl is cute and small and I am wearing the glove.”

The skunk was very well behaved and sat quietly letting us stroke its soft long black and white fur. Mrs Minchin really enjoyed having the snake around her neck and wanted to take it home.

    Fri 21 Mar 2025

In Year 6LD @RF, the students have been diving into the world of poetry with great enthusiasm! Over the past few weeks, we’ve been exploring the unique features of poems, analyzing some of the best literary works, and uncovering the magic behind rhyme, rhythm, and structure. The children have been inspired by their own childhood experiences, and now they are starting to write their own poems! From exciting adventures to the quiet moments that make childhood so special, the students are pouring their hearts into their writing, and the results have been nothing short of impressive. Our teacher is incredibly proud of the creativity and thoughtfulness they’re putting into their work!

But that’s not all – Year 6LD is also having a blast in Maths! We’ve been learning all about measurement, and our focus has been on area, perimeter, and volume. Whether we’re calculating the area of our favorite shapes or figuring out how much space something takes up, the class is showing off their newfound skills and working together to solve real-world problems. It’s amazing to see how these math concepts are coming to life through fun hands-on activities.

We can’t wait to share more of our poetry and math adventures in the weeks to come. Stay tuned for some truly inspiring creations from the talented Year 6LD writers!

    Wed 19 Mar 2025

As part of science week, we have been creating our own experiments. What reactions can we make with items from our kitchen cupboards? How can we change the reaction to make it greater or less? We came up with lots of answers and had a lot of fun too!

In our Happymind lessons this half term we have been learning about our character strengths and we were able to develop our bravery when we had some very special visitors in!

We met a huge python, which lots of us were brave enough to hold.

Then we saw a hairy tarantula and were surprised that when some of us held it that the ends of the legs felt a bit sticky.

After we met a very sleepy skunk and all had a lovely stroke, but were very worried that we didn’t want to upset it, because apparently if a skunk sprays everything within a mile will smell for two weeks and you can’t wash the smell off!!

Finally, we saw a tiny owl. Lots of us wore a special glove, had a hold and stroke. The owl even flew onto someone’s back!!
