Fri 24 Oct 2025Celebrating Diwali and the Story of Rama and Sita In RLT @RF
This week has been a wonderfully creative and exciting one in our classroom as we have been learning all about Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The children have explored the traditions, colours, and meanings behind this special celebration, discovering how families around the world mark Diwali with joy, togetherness, and light.
We began by learning the story of Rama and Sita, an important tale that teaches us about courage, kindness, and the victory of good over evil. The children listened carefully and took great interest in the different characters and events. They then had the opportunity to retell the story using their own puppets, which they designed and decorated themselves. There was so much enthusiasm as the children worked in groups to perform their puppet shows, bringing the story to life with creativity and teamwork.
As part of our Diwali celebrations, the children also made their own diya lamps using clay. They shaped, painted, and decorated them beautifully, showing fantastic attention to detail. Each lamp was unique and carefully crafted to represent the light and hope that Diwali celebrates. Once the lamps were finished, we displayed them around the classroom, and it looked truly magical!
Through these activities, the children have developed their understanding of different cultures and beliefs, as well as their artistic and storytelling skills. We have also discussed the values that Diwali teaches — friendship, kindness, and the importance of light overcoming darkness — lessons that we can all share in our classroom community.
It has been a wonderful week of learning, filled with creativity, laughter, and new discoveries. We are very proud of how engaged and enthusiastic all the children have been throughout our Diwali project.
Happy Diwali to everyone who is celebrating!

Thu 16 Oct 2025This half term, Year 4EB @RF have been exploring place value. We found subtraction a little tricky at first, but we didn’t give up! We persevered, and with practise, we got the hang of it.
To help us along the way, we played games, became maths detectives, and tried out a range of activities to make our learning fun and engaging. We’ve made great progress and are feeling much more confident now!

Tue 14 Oct 2025Year 1 LG @ RF Exploring Colour in Art!
This week in art, we’ve been learning all about mixing primary colours to create different tints and shades. The children experimented with adding white to make colours lighter and black to make them darker. It was exciting to see how just a little change could completely transform a colour!
We also spent time thinking about how the colours looked – were they darker or lighter? Everyone had a go at creating their own shades, and the results were fantastic.
Naiza said, “I thought our artwork was great!” – and we couldn’t agree more!
John Paul’s favourite creation was a deep dark green, and it was a hit with the class too.
Well done to all our young artists for such creative work – we can’t wait to see what you mix up next!

YR3CM news @RF
Tue 14 Oct 2025As part of their geography learning on climate and habitats, Class 3CM @RF visited London Zoo to explore how animals adapt to different environments around the world. Pupils investigated the links between climate and animal behaviour, including how diet, feeding habits, and self-care vary depending on the region the animals come from. They learned about species from rainforests, deserts, polar regions, and savannahs, deepening their understanding of global climates and the challenges animals face in the wild. The visit provided valuable, hands-on learning that brought their geography topic to life.

Mon 13 Oct 2025YR6CE @RF Hit the High Notes with Primary Robins!
This term, Year 6 have been enjoying weekly music lessons with a professional opera singer from Primary Robins, a wonderful initiative bringing the joy of singing into schools. Every Friday, the children take part in fun and engaging sessions where they learn vocal warm-ups, explore singing in different languages, and develop their musical confidence.
This week’s highlight? Singing in a Scottish accent! The class also delved into the stories behind the songs, gaining a deeper appreciation of the music they performed.
What an amazing opportunity for our young performers—well done, Year 6!

Tue 07 Oct 2025Year 6LD@RF – Travels to the Renaissance!
This term, the children in 6LD have been stepping back in time to explore the incredible world of Renaissance art — and what a journey it’s been!
We’ve been learning all about how artists like Leonardo da Vinci didn’t just paint — they studied the world around them with the eyes of scientists and the hearts of storytellers. From the mysterious smile of the Mona Lisa to the dramatic scene of The Last Supper, Leonardo showed us how powerful art can be when it captures real life and real emotion.
To understand how Renaissance artists made their work so lifelike, the children explored techniques such as chiaroscuro (that’s light and shadow magic!) and perspective to give their drawings depth and realism. It’s amazing how much you can do with just a pencil and a keen eye!
Their challenge? Take a simple apple — yes, just an ordinary apple — and turn it into a masterpiece using everything they’ve learned. And let’s just say… we’ll never look at fruit the same way again!
Well done, 6LD — da Vinci would be proud!

YR1/2RE news @RF
Thu 02 Oct 2025This week in Year 1/2RE @RF, we’ve been busy exploring lots of exciting independent learning!
In English, we’ve been writing sentences about minibeasts, focusing on using conjunctions to add extra detail and information. All of this fantastic work is helping us prepare to write our very own non-fiction books all about minibeasts — we can’t wait to share them!
In Geography, we started by learning about the countries of the United Kingdom. Now, we’ve expanded our knowledge even further by exploring the seven continents of the world! We even created fact files to showcase what we’ve learned.
Can you remember which continents are near the equator? Or which ones are covered in ice? Which continent is home to pandas, and where would you find the country of Brazil?
