Mon 19 Jan 2026Year 6 @RF Visit Downham Library – Centenary Workshop
Year 6 enjoyed an exciting and creative trip to Downham Library, where we went to explore the Downham Centenary Exhibition. The visit began with a treasure hunt and fact-finding mission, which encouraged the children to closely examine the exhibition and learn more about Downham’s history.
During the visit, we learnt how Downham has changed over the past 100 years, discovering interesting facts about how the area was originally built to provide better housing for families. The children were fascinated to learn that many of the roads and houses were carefully planned and that some buildings and green spaces are still used by the community today.
The children were also very excited to see the work they had previously contributed on display as part of the exhibition, which made the visit especially meaningful for them.
Afterwards, the pupils took part in a hands-on workshop, working together to design and create a new piece of artwork. T
We also had the opportunity to view beautiful artworks created by our neighbouring schools, which inspired the children and highlighted the strong sense of community involved in the project.
It was a fantastic day of learning, teamwork and creativity, and Year 6 represented the school brilliantly throughout the visit

Mon 19 Jan 2026This week we’ve been enjoying the story Lost and Found, which inspired us to learn all about Arctic animals and where they live around the world 🌍❄️
We explored colour mixing using cold blue colours, created “lost” posters for the penguin, drew pictures of him, and described what he looks like while carefully looking at colours 🎨✏️We also had lots of fun working together on our Arctic puzzle — it was a big favourite! 🧩💙
Such a lovely week of learning, creativity and teamwork ✨

Mon 19 Jan 2026In Year 2RE @RF Art, we have just begun learning about weaving and exploring its history. In our first lesson, the children practised weaving using strips of coloured paper on a card template. They experimented with different colour combinations and tried starting their weaving at different points, discovering how this changed the patterns they created. The children showed great creativity and enthusiasm as they explored this new skill.
In Science, we investigated how different materials can change shape by squeezing, stretching, bending and twisting. We were surprised to discover that some materials, such as elastic bands, returned to their original shape after being changed, while others like Blu Tack stayed in their new shape after stretching, bending or twisting. This helped us learn more about the properties of different materials through hands-on investigation.

Every detail was their decision, what an amazing piece of art they created!! Well done Year 6!

YR4EB news @RF
Tue 16 Dec 2025Year 4EB @RF News: This Christmas, Rangefield came together to raise money for people experiencing homelessness. The pupils of 4EB created art from the heart, using their creativity to spread kindness and make a real difference.
We are incredibly proud of the thought, care and compassion that went into each piece of artwork. The children loved knowing that their work could help others during a time of year when kindness matters most.
A huge thank you to our parents and carers for supporting this wonderful cause and for purchasing the artwork. Your generosity helped turn the children’s creativity into meaningful support for those in need.
Well done, Year 4 — a fantastic example of using art to help others and show the true spirit of Christmas

YR6LD News @RF
Thu 11 Dec 2025This term, Year 6LD@RF have been learning all about light and how it helps us see the world around us. They investigated how light travels in straight lines and how shadows are formed when an object blocks the light.
To put their learning into action, the children went outside and used the sun to create shadow puppets with their hands. They experimented with different hand shapes to make animals and characters, and they observed how the shadows changed as they moved closer to or farther from the sunlight.
The playground quickly became a mini theatre, filled with creativity, teamwork, and excitement. The pupils were delighted to discover how science and imagination can come together in such a fun way!
Well done, Year 6!

YR2RE news @RF
Thu 11 Dec 2025In Year 2RE @RF this half term, we have been exploring printing in our Art lessons and learning about the work of designer Orla Kiely. We looked closely at her bold, repeating patterns and the thoughtful colour palettes she uses to create her distinctive style. Inspired by her artwork, the children designed and produced their own printed patterns, experimenting with colour mixing to capture the calm, natural tones seen in her designs. The children showed great creativity and care throughout the process—take a look at our wonderful creations!
In geography we have been learning about Antarctica. We joined a live assembly where we met explorer Robert Swan talking to us from his tent in Antarctica! He told us about his expeditions and they showed us outside their tent where we saw snow going on for miles!
In DT we have been learning about the different food groups. We have been designing tasty and healthy meals. We also learnt how to cut, snip, spread and grate our ingredients.
