Thu 28 Mar 2024In our RE lesson, Reception LT @RF, we have been learning about the Easter story that Christians celebrate. Some of the children made an Easter garden to represent the story of Easter. We showed our lovely work at the assembly with Father Stuart from St Barnabas church.

Wed 27 Mar 2024In 1MR @RF, we have been learning about Joseph Bazelgette in history. This week we wrote about why he was so important. Over the past few weeks, we have learnt lots of disgusting facts about how we got rid of our waste (poo and wee) before we had sewers. Read some of the work in our history books to find out why we should be so grateful to Joseph Bazelgette, or ask one of the children in our class!

Mon 25 Mar 2024In their riveting river adventure tale, Year 5EB @ RF have masterfully employed various literary skills to captivate their readers. Through the use of correct punctuation for direct speech, they brought their characters to life, infusing their dialogues with authenticity and emotion. They included a diverse range of sentence starters in their writing, we explored writing sentences using the different figurative language techniques such as similes, metaphors and hyperboles, to describe their characters and setting. They worked hard in producing an engaging narrative, seamlessly transitioning between scenes and actions. Additionally, their skilful use of subordinating conjunctions allowed for the expansion of ideas. We cannot wait to share our amazing work with year 3 next week.

Fri 22 Mar 2024This week in YR4/5CR @RF, we have been learning all about rivers. We’ve used the stimulus of the short CGI film ‘Kayak’ to base our writing on. We’ve used drama to help us plan and included lots of figurative language to write amazing adventure stories with a comedic slant.

Oakbridge Nursery News
Wed 20 Mar 2024At Oakbridge Nursery – we went ‘quackery’ for ducks.
We’ve been learning about life cycles, so what better way to learn than to see it happen in our classroom.
On Monday morning we had a visitor who delivered us some eggs. On Tuesday we had one duckling, on Wednesday we had two ducklings, on Thursday we had three ducklings… our last duckling was a little tired so didn’t hatch until the weekend. All the children took it in turns to hold the ducklings every day, we made sure that they had water and food, the ducklings even went swimming in our water tray.
The children have had the best experience looking after our ducklings, they have now gone back to the farm to find their mummy & daddy ducks.

Thu 14 Mar 2024This half term, Year 3AD @RF have been learning how to say the words for different shapes in French! This week we tried to find shapes in word searches, then practised counting up to five so we could count out how many shapes we could see! We found out that many of the French words for shapes are similar (including their pronunciation) to the English version, this makes them easier for us to learn.

Thu 14 Mar 2024Year 6JR @RF have been immersed in a week filled with exciting challenges as they prepare for their SATs. This week’s focus has been on delving into the world of mathematical formulas, particularly those pertaining to calculating the area of triangles and parallelograms, as well as mastering the intricacies of volume for various 3D shapes. It’s been a journey filled with discovery and problem-solving, and the students have embraced the challenges with enthusiasm. It’s wonderful to see them engaging with these foundational mathematical concepts in such a hands-on and enjoyable way.

Wed 13 Mar 2024In Year 1CM @RF we have been learning about Christianity. We went to our local church St Barnabas and we met Father Stuart Leck. Father Leck showed us around the church and explained what happens in the church such as services, ceremonies and celebrations.
He showed us and modelled the different clothing he wears at different times of the year. He explained how the colours used for the church alter, lectern and his clothing change for Christmas, Easter and weddings.
He also shoed us how the organ works. The children were fascinated with the tunes it makes. We discussed the singing and looked at the hymns that are familiar to the children.
Father Leck led a question and answer session which the children asked some really important questions?
What do you do each day for your job? – Care for the community. Visit people in their homes or hospital. He marries people and they have classes, he baptises people he helps people when somebody dies. He reads the bible and prays with people.
What does it mean when the bell rings? – It lets the people in the community know that service is going to begin.
Why are there so many candles? – They symbolise new life and new beginnings.
Do you sleep in the church? – No but next door in the house.
He gave the children a challenge to count the crosses in the church. – We found 51!
