REC LT news @RF
Wed 28 Feb 2024In Reception LT @RF it’s all about Pirates!! We have been reading pirate messages, making pirate boats with foil to experiment with floating and sinking. The reading corner has turned into a pirate ship and we love dressing up to read. We have had treasure hunts and made maps. We are looking forward to meeting a real pirate and asking some questions. Some pirate treasure has been found in the classroom and we have been counting and adding with the coins.

Wed 28 Feb 2024This week in maths (in 4SM @RF) we have been introducing fractions and discussing what is a whole. We used a ‘whole’ chocolate bar to work out how many equal parts we could split the bar into. The children enjoyed the practical element of the lesson and this inspired high quality conversations between the children.

Fri 23 Feb 2024Year 5EB @ RF were very excited to learn about the water cycle, this week.
We began by discussing ‘why is Earth known as the blue planet’ and where around us we would find water. We produced some great examples of work – we are very proud!

Fri 23 Feb 2024This week in YR4/5CR @RF the children have been exploring the different ways that information can be shared. The story we read (Wolves) gave us lots of interesting information, but we thought we could share information more efficiently as an information text. Here are some examples of our excellent work!
We have also started a coding club this week for Years 4 to 5. This lunchtime we explored how the program MrBit works and how it connects inputs to a control module and then to an output. We displayed our intials on the virtual LED output. Next week, we’ll transfer these to BBC MicroBits and see our programs working on Real-life circuitboards!

Thu 22 Feb 2024In 1MR @RF this week we have been learning all about animals. In English we have been thinking about questions we can ask about dogs. We have found out facts about dogs and written these in sentences. In Science we have started to learn about the three different animal diets: carnivore, herbivore and omnivore. In Art we have been layering different types of paper to create animal pictures.

Thu 08 Feb 2024Year 6CW @RF have had a wonderful literature experience reading “Arrival” by Shaun Tan this half term. This is a powerful graphic novel that explores themes of migration, belonging, and cultural identity in a visually stunning way. Using drama as a tool, we delved into the complex themes of the book for engagement and to encourage deeper understanding and empathy.
We focused on the use of different clauses for effect in narrative writing to develop our language skills and literary techniques. Learning how to vary sentence structures greatly enhanced the flow and impact of our writing, allowing us to convey our ideas more effectively.
We have enjoyed reading our published pieces. Keep up the fantastic work year 6!

We have particularly liked reading the stories about Elmer & Rainbow Fish; looking at different colours and shapes and working collaboratively to produce some amazing art work. Thu 01 Feb 20242LB @RF have been very busy this half term. In maths, we’ve been doing multiplication and division. In geography, we’ve been locating cities within the UK and we’re going to be looking at mountain ranges around the world. In history, we’ve been learning about how animals were sent into space. Finally, in English, we’ve been using imperative verbs and time conjunctions to write up our instructions on ‘how to make a rocket’. Here are just some of the fantastic examples. Well done 2LB!
