Year 6 @RF Dive Into the Mysterious World of The Viewer
This term, Year 6 have been captivated by The Viewer, using its eerie, thought-provoking imagery as a springboard for some truly impressive writing.
Pupils have approached their work like real authors—researching ideas in depth and transforming them into rich, imaginative pieces. They’ve explored how to craft expanded noun phrases to convey complex information concisely, creating vivid descriptions that bring their writing to life.
Inspired by the techniques of Shaun Tan, the children have carefully analysed how characters and settings are developed. They’ve then drawn on these insights to plan their own writing, experimenting with atmosphere, perspective, and detail to engage their readers.
A key focus has been understanding how grammar and vocabulary choices shape meaning. Year 6 have risen to the challenge—selecting precise language and using a wide range of cohesive devices to link ideas smoothly within and across paragraphs. The result is writing that feels both sophisticated and purposeful.
From initial ideas to polished pieces, the children have shown creativity, independence, and a real flair for storytelling. We are incredibly proud of how they have embraced the challenge and developed their voices as writers.
We hope you enjoy reading their work as much as we have!
