Year 6LD@RF – Travels to the Renaissance!

This term, the children in 6LD have been stepping back in time to explore the incredible world of Renaissance art — and what a journey it’s been!

We’ve been learning all about how artists like Leonardo da Vinci didn’t just paint — they studied the world around them with the eyes of scientists and the hearts of storytellers. From the mysterious smile of the Mona Lisa to the dramatic scene of The Last Supper, Leonardo showed us how powerful art can be when it captures real life and real emotion.

To understand how Renaissance artists made their work so lifelike, the children explored techniques such as chiaroscuro (that’s light and shadow magic!) and perspective to give their drawings depth and realism. It’s amazing how much you can do with just a pencil and a keen eye!

Their challenge? Take a simple apple — yes, just an ordinary apple — and turn it into a masterpiece using everything they’ve learned. And let’s just say… we’ll never look at fruit the same way again!

Well done, 6LD — da Vinci would be proud!
