Year 6LD @RF Explores the Exciting World of 3D Modeling!
This term in Computers, Year 6LD have been diving into the fascinating world of 3D modeling — creating digital objects that you can spin, resize, and combine in a virtual space!
The unit began with learning how to navigate a 3D environment. The children practised moving, resizing, and duplicating objects to get comfortable with working in three dimensions. It’s a bit like playing with digital building blocks!
Next, they discovered how to make hollow objects using placeholders — a cool technique that lets them create more realistic models. Using these new skills, Year 6LD then designed a desk tidy by combining different shapes, putting their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test.
One of the exciting parts was learning about grouping and ungrouping objects, which helps make managing complex models much easier. This led to the highlight of the unit: each child planned, developed, and evaluated their very own 3D model of a building!
The children are proud of their creations and have enjoyed bringing their ideas to life on the computer screen. This project has not only boosted their tech skills but also helped them think like real designers and architects.
Well done, 6LD — the future of 3D design looks bright with you!
